Yachts: The 22nd Monaco Yacht Show

Now in its 22nd year, the Monaco Yacht Show serves as the world’s grandest stage for the industry’s most beautiful yachts to make their debuts and impress the yachting community’s elite. The 2012 show, held from September 19th-22nd, showcased some extraordinary launches from the last year, as well as a number of older yachts. In general, the industry is experiencing a slowdown in terms of new launches, due largely to the lack of orders placed during the economic slowdown that began in 2008, with the typical two- to four-year build times of larger yachts prompting the current lull in launches. Videos: Steve Jobs’ Yacht “Venus” Unveiled
Christened Venus after the Roman goddess of love and beauty, the yacht Steve Jobs had been designing before his untimely death has been spotted in Aalsmeer, Netherlands. The vessel was reportedly a joint effort between the Apple legend and designer Philippe Starck, and the aesthetics of both parties are evident in the finished version — sleek, minimal lines, copious use of glass, and the inclusion of seven 27-inch iMacs in the wheelhouse. From various estimates, “Venus” is roughly 230 to 260 feet long and its 100% aluminum body likely renders it one of the lightest water vessels of its size. Jobs’ family will be present at the yacht’s proper christening, though the intended use or purpose of “Venus” is yet unknown.

Videos: The Yacht Week (2012 Teaser)
A few weeks ago I was shown this video, and I have pretty much been obsessed with partaking in The Yacht Week festivities seen in the video ever since. Basically, you and your friends get to rent your own yacht, sail around the ocean, and party your little behinds off. The best part is that they are pretty strict on the gender ratio. No sausage fest here. Just watch the video. Enjoy.

Videos: Benetti Seanna Megayacht
Delivered last August to longtime Benetti yacht owners, the 213-foot Seanna is a floating showcase of custom fittings and furnishings. Italian walnut paneling with nickel inlays, wenge cabinetry, Botticino and alacatta marble flooring, and a marble stairway with nickel balusters and carved handrails are among the highlights of the interior, which also boasts a theater with a 100-inch projector screen, a large water-level gym with a side-opening swim platform, a library with a marble fireplace, and a pair of massage rooms. The yacht accommodates as many as 14 guests in two twin cabins, three double cabins, a large upper-deck stateroom, and a full-beam owner’s suite with his and her bathrooms and dressing rooms, a sitting room, and a study. Enjoy.
