This time around, the legendary Viper gets a wicked 8.4 liter V10 engine capable of cranking out 640 horsepower. The unveiling of the new Aston Martin Vanquish sports coupe this week means that there's also a Volante (that's Aston Martin talk for convertible) coming our way. However, since that won't be happening now, British racing driver and television presenter Tiff Needell chose the current DBS Volante to battle the Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster. The open-top DBS sports a 5.9-liter V12 that's good for 510-ponies (517PS) and 570Nm (420 lb-ft) while the SLS AMG Roadster makes do with a 6.2-liter V8 pushing out 563hp (571PS) and 650Nm (479 lb-ft). After an early image leak, Aston Martin has officially pulled the cover back on its revived roadster, the Vanquish. The British luxury automaker reports that the Vanquish is set to succeed the DBS, meeting many of its predecessor’s lofty supercar expectations, including a massive 5.9-liter V12 engine good for over 560 horsepower. That engine will ride on an updated version of the DBS’s aluminum and carbon fiber chassis (giving the front end a 13% weight reduction), and will feature ventilated carbon ceramic disc brakes and a brand new Launch Control system — the latter of which should come in handy towards getting the Vanquish to 60mph in a mere four seconds. First shown at the New York Auto Show in April, the special edition was designed to commemorate the AMG sub-brand's 45th birthday. Mercedes plans to offer only 45 examples of the car worldwide, with first U.S. deliveries to take place in November this year. The 45th Anniversary model utilizes the same 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine with 621hp (630PS) and 1,000Nm (737 lb-ft) as the SL 65 AMG, but features unique content including a bespoke matte grey finish for the roadster's body.
