Recipes: Chili Beer Chicken Wings

Last week I was able to visit the Los Angeles CBS Studios. They even let me do a cooking segment. Originally slotted for 4 to 5 minutes, the loved me so much, they let me run to six minutes. Aren’t they great? A few questions threw me off, “Were you in a sorority?” and “What is Craft Beer?” The first, I’m ok with dismissing, but the second left me to wonder. If you have to define Craft Beer in one sentence to someone who knows nothing about beer beyond the college Greek System drinking games, how would you do that? [See & Read More]

Dining: Breakfast Burritos Recipe

The inspiration for these handheld burritos came from those served at the Santa Fe Farmers Market, in New Mexico, where they are truly the early bird's reward—feasting on a portable breakfast while scoring the pick of the produce is a magical start to the day. Though either Mexican or Spanish chorizo would work, we prefer the smoothness of the Mexican sausage and the way its flavor, rich with chiles, soaks into the potatoes. Avocado adds a fresh, bright note. [Read More]

Dining: Turkey Basil Chili Recipe

In the spirit of eating healthier for the upcoming New Year this scrumptious chili is made with turkey instead of ground beef and gets a little touch of sweetness from some basil and a kick from some jalapeno. I got the idea to make this chili after trying some chicken chili at a local lunch spot. It is important to note that I did not have my mind set on chicken chili when I went to get my lunch. You see, I crave the old fashioned chili at this particular place. [Read More]

Dining: Chicken Afritada Recipe

As for this Chicken Afritada… well, simply put, it’s comfort food. A stew that I love to cook in the winter, that brings me back to winter nights in Indiana. Tender braised chicken and potatoes with a rich tomato sauce — it’s a stew that is a staple in many Filipino kitchens, and reminds me of many dinners at my childhood table, served over a bed of steaming rice. It’s a basic that I know you will love too. [Read More]

Recipes: Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Soup

When Iyron asked me to submit a soup recipe, I tossed around a few ideas, but there was no way I could forget about my "famous" Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Soup. There are so many variations of broccoli cheese soup, but once you find one that you love, there is basically no return. You will end up cooking it all the time and people will start begging you to make it for various events and potlucks. I can't even recall how many times I have heated up a pot of this soup for friends after they had babies or just needed a helping hand. Soup is a perfect way to reach out to others. [Read More]

Recipes: Slow Cooker Chicken Gumbo

Originating in southern Louisiana, the hearty stew known as gumbo is traditionally made with shellfish or poultry along with sausage or ham. The weather in Atlanta this weekend made me in the mood for gumbo. Not only did I want gumbo but while my girlfriend and I did our errands on Saturday I wanted the gumbo cooking. So for all you that want a simple crock pot meal for the weekday this post is for you. Enjoy. [Read More]
