Just because they have "breakfast" in the name doesn't mean you need to guzzle them before Noon. Although, on second thought, the flavors of Mama Walker's Breakfast Liqueurs ($13 USD) are so perfectly suited to the waking hours that we might have to rethink our first statement. Coming in at a healthy 70 proof, these specialty spirits come in three IHOP-friendly flavors — Maple Bacon, Blueberry Pancake, and Glazed Donut — and are sure to liven up your morning, afternoon, or night.
Tired of scouring through recipe sites trying to pick out a dinner, then trudging to the store only to find they're out of one key ingredient? Give Blue Apron ($10/meal) a try. This handy service ships you the raw ingredients for three delicious meals each week; each meal is perfectly portioned, weighs in a 500-700 calories, and takes roughly 35 minutes to prepare. There are options available for both carnivores and vegetarians, so no matter what your lifestyle, there's an option to match.
You want to talk about Super Smores? Best be making them with some of these Wondermade Bourbon Marshmallows ($8). Soaked in Maker's Mark, these boozy sweets are sure to add a spark of unexpected flavor to whatever treat you put them in. Perfect for fooling unsuspecting in-laws over the Easter holidays. If the hard liquor isn't your thing, they also offer Guinness, apple cinnamon, cranberry, pear, and pumpkin pie flavors.
Last week I was able to visit the Los Angeles CBS Studios. They even let me do a cooking segment. Originally slotted for 4 to 5 minutes, the loved me so much, they let me run to six minutes. Aren’t they great? A few questions threw me off, “Were you in a sorority?” and “What is Craft Beer?” The first, I’m ok with dismissing, but the second left me to wonder. If you have to define Craft Beer in one sentence to someone who knows nothing about beer beyond the college Greek System drinking games, how would you do that? [See & Read More]
The inspiration for these handheld burritos came from those served at the Santa Fe Farmers Market, in New Mexico, where they are truly the early bird's reward—feasting on a portable breakfast while scoring the pick of the produce is a magical start to the day. Though either Mexican or Spanish chorizo would work, we prefer the smoothness of the Mexican sausage and the way its flavor, rich with chiles, soaks into the potatoes. Avocado adds a fresh, bright note. [Read More]
In the spirit of eating healthier for the upcoming New Year this scrumptious chili is made with turkey instead of ground beef and gets a little touch of sweetness from some basil and a kick from some jalapeno. I got the idea to make this chili after trying some chicken chili at a local lunch spot. It is important to note that I did not have my mind set on chicken chili when I went to get my lunch. You see, I crave the old fashioned chili at this particular place. [Read More]
Several world-famous chefs will convene to host a series of dinners at this year’s Palm Beach Food and Wine Festival being held from December 7 to 11 at the city’s hot spots, including the Breakers resort, the Four Seasons Palm Beach, and others. Chef Daniel Boulud will host the opening reception at his Café Boulud Palm Beach restaurant ($100 per person). Events include a pig roast–style dinner ($125 per person), which will offer an assortment of slow-roasted meats at Pistache French Bistro on the waterfront. Photos courtesy of LILA PHOTO. [See More]
As for this Chicken Afritada… well, simply put, it’s comfort food. A stew that I love to cook in the winter, that brings me back to winter nights in Indiana. Tender braised chicken and potatoes with a rich tomato sauce — it’s a stew that is a staple in many Filipino kitchens, and reminds me of many dinners at my childhood table, served over a bed of steaming rice. It’s a basic that I know you will love too. [Read More]
What do The Rolling Stones do to celebrate their 50th anniversary? They drink some booze, of course. Actually, they release booze, in the form of The Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary Whisky ($TBA). Crafted by legendary Japanese distillers Suntory, this special blend contains malts distilled and casked in milestone years throughout the band's history, giving it a very rich, complex flavor. If you want one of the commemorative bottles, which are designed around the iconic lips and tongue logo, you'd best hurry — only 150 will be produced.
When Iyron asked me to submit a soup recipe, I tossed around a few ideas, but there was no way I could forget about my "famous" Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Soup. There are so many variations of broccoli cheese soup, but once you find one that you love, there is basically no return. You will end up cooking it all the time and people will start begging you to make it for various events and potlucks. I can't even recall how many times I have heated up a pot of this soup for friends after they had babies or just needed a helping hand. Soup is a perfect way to reach out to others. [Read More]
