Where did your love of music originate and who influenced you in the beginning?
My friends during grade school influenced me into loving R&B and Hip Hop, but my parents originally introduced me to music in general. They had Japanese music playing all day, everyday at home.
Tell our readers how you broke into Toronto’s DJing scene and what empowered you to become successful.
I broke into the Toronto scene by being heavily supported by local peers. When I first started, I DJ'd for all school dance parties, talent shows, birthday parties and house parties in my area, and by my first night club gig, I had over 300 people come support me. I'm still trying to define whats successful in my mind.
What and who brought you to Atlanta and what qualities do you feel are building you into ahousehold name?
Allen Chueh from Elv8 Entertainment promoted a night for the Gidewon Group in Atlanta who now owns Compound Night Club, Velvet Room, Vanquish Lounge and Reign Night Club. They were responsible for having me out in Atlanta 4 times a year, 2 years prior to my move to Atlanta from Toronto. In those 2 years, I felt that I could bring something different to the city. Coming from a multicultural city like Toronto, all DJ's are familiar with spinning most genres of music at a club. Taking that and my remixing style, I think I was able to create some attention in Atlanta.
You’re a very fashionable individual; give us a glimpse into your summer style, favorite “warm wear”sneaker(s) and colors?
Thank you. I think I've been conscious of what to wear and fashion since I was a kid. My style is all over the place, I really like going from formal to urban to preppy to my sweats. I don't have just one thing. J Crew, Scotch & Soda, Club Monaco and Ralph Lauren are some of my favorite brands. For the summer, I wanna show off my sneaks so I'm ready to wear my collection of shorts. I love pastel colors so we will see how it goes this summer.
List your top five recording artists of all-time and who do you see having a breakout year for 2012?
Aaliyah, The Notorious B.I.G., Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Bell Biv Devoe. In 2012 I see Tyga from Young Money really blowing up to do big things in the Hip Hop world.
What is your current “go-to” record/mix to play when you’re in a zone and want to get the crowd crazy?
If I'm at a urban club (Hip Hop & R&B) I would say Tyga - Rack City. If I was playing at a old school party, Bell Biv Devoe - Poison, EU - Da Butt, or The Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy. For my top 40 crowd, most likely LMFAO - Shots.
