A pioneer of the Internet pharmacy trade implicated in selling counterfeit drugs to Americans was arrested last week in Miami. Andrew Strempler, who has been living in the Caribbean since the FDA alerted consumers and international law enforcement agencies that he'd sold fake Lipitor and other drugs in the U.S. in 2006, will be arraigned today in federal court in Florida. It's the latest sign that--under pressure from drug makers--U.S. authorities are cracking down on illegal international traffic in pharmaceuticals.
