Test Drive: 2014 Star Bolt Motorcycle

Stripped down can be damn sexy. In a single sentence, that’s how the new Star Bolt and Bolt R-Spec entries into the bobber motorcycle niche feel, and are hoping you will, too. Yamaha (Star’s parent company) intends this bike to be a no-frills city hopper and commuter. Does it succeed? We recently had the opportunity for some quality ride time on both of these bikes to find out. [See & Read More]

Videos: Lunasee Motorcycle Wheel Lights
Lunasee’s ASL 1000 ($150-200 USD) uses four 1W LEDs to excite a strip of photo-luminescent pinstripe tape that attaches to the rim of motorcycle wheels, improving nighttime visibility. It’s compatible with motorcycles that have dual swing arms. Lunasee installations do not require the addition of batteries or electronics to your wheels. Instead, a 4mm wide, nearly weightless phosphorescent pin stripe is applied to each rim, and as the wheels rotate, the attachments charge via LEDs mounted to the bike and wired into it's power supply. Enjoy.

Rides: Campagna T-Rex 16STM

If the Campagna T-Rex 14R wasn't your cup of tea, the Canadian maker of high-performance trikes has just introduced a smooth new arrival that might change your tune – the T-Rex 16S. Unlike its sibling which is powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder screamer sourced from a Kawasaki Ninja, the new Campagna boasts a slightly larger 1.6-liter six-cylinder sourced from BMW. Power is down just a bit, but torque improves (rated output is 160 horsepower and 129 pound-feet), meaning the 1,100-pound-or-so trike with its sequential six-speed transmission should easily crack the 60 mph benchmark in less than five seconds and provide plenty of flexibility around town. Rides: Roland Sands Design Shadow Rocket

As with all great things, there’s something to be said for hand craftsmanship. When an expert takes the time to infuse his hopes and passions into a product, to make sure that everything is in its right place, it’s a beautiful physical extension of the imagination. When two experts come together to hand craft, let’s say, a motorcycle–excellence is near guaranteed. Such is the case with Rough Crafts and Roland Sands Design‘s new collaborative endeavor: the Shadow Rocket. Aptly titled for its all-black composition, as well as its slew of turbo-churning aftermarket parts, it’s the details that make this bike a rider’s greasy dream. [See More]

Rides: Ducati 20th Anniversary Motorcycle

Most "anniversary" vehicles tend to be little more than a few badges and some fancy embroidery — which is why we're so impressed with the Ducati Monster 20th Anniversary Motorcycle ($TBA). A recreation of the original model, it features a bronze-colored frame, a chromium-plated finish, a gold-finished Brembo braking system, and a vintage Ducati '86 logo on the tank, and current-generation technology that makes it a near-perfect marriage of old and new.

Rides: Yamaha Moto Cage-Six Motorcycle

Serious riders would never mistake Yamaha's XJ6 for a stunt bike — yet that's exactly what was used as the base for the Yamaha Moto Cage-Six Concept Motorcycle ($TBA). Being a concept, it will likely never become available, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the garish paint scheme, exposed framework, and car tire-carrying rear wheel.

Rides: 2013 Yamaha YZF-R1

Yamaha surely knows the old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and that’s exactly what the venerable Japanese company has done with the most recent YZF-R1 Motorcycle. Opting not to mess with a good thing, the company decided to add new exterior paint options as the only alteration from last years model. Now available in Matte Gray, Rapid Red, and Raven paint schemes in addition to the Team Yamaha Blue and White, the 2013 model is identical in every other aspect to the outgoing model. Rides: 2013 BMW HP4 Supersport Bike

Derived from BMW's S 1000 RR racing bike, the 2013 HP4 is the first four-cylinder bike in the HP family and packs 193 horsepower. That's on a bike that only weighs 373 pounds, 439 when race ready and 90 percent full of fuel. And as impressive as it is, the most exciting feature lies in the suspension. For the first time as standard equipment in a production motorcycle, BMW implemented Dynamic Damping Control, which adapts to the type of driving your'e doing. [See & Read More]

Rides: Bandit9 Nero Motorcycle

And you thought your bike was stealth. The Bandit9 Nero Motorcycle ($TBA) redefines the term by offering a completely matte black build, leaving only the headlamp and taillight unaffected by the darkness. It's based on the Chang Jiang 750, and features a rebuilt engine and transmission, 19-inch wheels — spoke in the front, alloy in the rear — and a host of custom parts, including the exhaust, gas tank, handlebar, rear fender, and seat.
